When I was a child, my bedroom always ended up becoming the designated coat check during holiday parties, for reasons my young mind could not quite comprehend. ‘Go put their coats on your bed,’ my mother would instruct me to do any time guests entered our home.
My bedroom was situated on the ground floor right near the back entrance, and at the time, we didn’t have a proper mudroom in our small house.
